From Sonoma Magazine to CraftWork: Good Fire Brings the Heat
Sometimes the best stories start right here at CraftWork - often unexpectedly, with someone buzzing around full of good news and energy. This morning, Scott Keneally was running around with a fresh copy of Sonoma Magazine - and he wasn’t just sprinting for fun. He was on a mission: figuring out how to scan and print the pages, asap! We were happy to hear the news: the magazine holiday edition had just been printed, and his Good Fire Project is featured inside! We couldn’t resist celebrating along with him.
Scott’s initiative, Good Fire Project, isn’t your average firewood company. It sources 100% of its wood from local Sonoma County wildfire mitigation efforts - the kind of wood that would otherwise be chipped, burned, or simply abandoned on our rolling hills. By partnering with frontline wildfire resilience teams, Good Fire turns fuel risk into an asset - it’s “fighting fire with firewood,” one box at a time. It’s a brilliant initiative that benefits Sonoma County, supports the community, and gives wildfire mitigation efforts a new purpose.
Scott started this project in 2020, right in the middle of California’s escalating wildfire crisis. He trained as a volunteer wildland firefighter with the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection District and saw firsthand how much usable wood was going to waste. That “aha” moment - why bring packaged firewood from far away when local fuel was sitting unused? - sparked Good Fire’s mission.
Good news for the Healdsburg community: Scott’s boxes of Good Fire are now available at Big John’s Market for $14.49 each, and you can also grab them here at CraftWork for the same price this winter - the QR codes will be up and running shortly! Scott’s initiative is a wonderful reminder of how local business, environmental stewardship, and community can come together - and a chance to bring a little warmth to your winter. We at CraftWork are proud to host him and his project under our roof: it truly makes us feel that we’re exactly where we need to be.
