Looking Back, Looking Forward: Our Year in Very Rough Draft
Despite everything happening in the world, we know exactly why we’re writing this - the calendar is about to flip, the coffee keeps flowing, and we’ve just wrapped up our final community breakfast at Craftwork. It feels like the perfect moment to pause for a beat. This is the part of the year when we’re meant to look back, look ahead, and try to make sense of it all (good luck with that), preferably in somewhat complete sentences. So here we are: third cup of coffee in hand, a little reflective, a little amused, and doing our best to put this year into words.
Here in Healdsburg, life feels a bit removed from the rest of the U.S. - and for good reason. Every single tourist that comes by keeps saying we’re in a bubble. First, it’s California, then the Bay Area, then Healdsburg, with its Christmas magic on the plaza and so many incredible winter events at every restaurant and winery. We like to think we’ve contributed a little to that local magic - by being the one and only coworking space in town, and - by bringing super speedy ultra-fast internet to the community (apparently a very big deal, according to the Healdsburg Blue print shop owner, who also offered some honest feedback on our marketing efforts in the same sentence). One of the things we love most about this place is that it really is a community - one that tells you when you’re doing things right, and when you’re not.
Looking Back
2025 was a good one. It started slow, got busy with a lot of rewarding work in the middle, and sped up toward the end. We pulled off some pretty great stuff - solid meetings, fun events, and somehow fit 80 people in the house for comedy night (still not sure how that happened). We are so thankful to all of our partners - Acorn, Leo Steen Wines, Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce, Healdsburg Museum, Kaiser Permanente, and all the amazing startups and companies who used our space for meetings, events, team building, and workshops. Our founder, Jim Heid, had a pretty good year - running, attending, and speaking at his Small Scale Developer Forum, as well as at events organized by others. Somewhere in the middle of all that, he also won a Spaulding Award at MIT - a big deal - but he only found out because someone texted him that he won it. Here’s a shot from the award ceremony - while the award is handed out, Jim is off somewhere, doing who knows what.

Looking Ahead
We’re seeing more and more energy over here at Craftwork. Some days, almost all of our community tables are taken - and those are the days that make us feel really good about what’s coming next. Right now, all of our offices are full, but we expect a few to open up in late winter and again in spring. We’re also planning more events, starting with Andy Katz’s encore in January, followed by a Fred Astaire-inspired Valentine’s event in February, and many more to come - TED-style Craftwork Conversations, mixers for local entrepreneurs and startups, and more. We’re also kicking off our own comedy production (because we can!) in collaboration with Steve Ausburne, who headlined our event in late November. Steve is just fantastic - and if you missed the November event, you won’t want to miss the inaugural show of our comedy club on February 27th, 2026. Add it to your calendar - tickets will be out soon! Steve will be hosting, lining up the talent, and making sure we all feel cozy, welcome, and ready for a great time together.
